Broken Bones About Gin

How our gin is made - from base alcohol and selected botanicals to the perfectly round spirit.

Base Spirit

To make our gin, we begin with a sugar cane molasses base alcohol. This neutral spirit is 96% ABV and is completely flavourless. This is the blank canvas to which we add our own unique blend of botanicals, creating a fresh and distinctive gin with a character all its own.

The Key Ingridients

Experimenting with 30 plus botanicals over more than 100 experimental distillations, we’ve narrowed them down to the ten that represent what Broken Bones gins stand for: bold,  junipery and citrusy taste and aroma.

The ten carefully selected botanicals are: juniper, coriander, lemon peel, cardamom (black and green), liquorice, rosehip, linden flower, orris and angelica roots. Rosehip, linden flowers trully represent the Slovenian character.

Additional Ingredients

We are experimenting with different additional ingredients to develop new varieties of our gins.

Sloe berries are added to our Sloe Gin, local linden honey to Old Tom Gin and ginger to Ljubljana Dragon Gin.

Adding Flavour

To achieve the desired quality and flavour/aroma profile, we use stills made to our own specifications. We immerse the botanicals packed in bags in the base spirit and then distill them. Using this method only the finest essences of the botanicals infuse the water and alcohol vapours rising from the boiling pot through the still and the flavours are extracted with minimum force and imbue the gin with freshness, boldness and exquisitly balanced flavour and aroma.
